about

This album is the first of two volumes that together chart my life as a consumer and producer of music. The two volumes represent a musical autobiography or memoir. This volume covers the period from my childhood in the '50s to the end of the '70s. What is apparent is the overwhelming influence of American music on me and (I imagine) most of my generation; something that continues to this day. While many of these songs are well-known country favourites, some of them are not, but the way I approach each piece is always from the trajectory of a 'country' musician (in a fairly expanded sense)...so they all become a kind of country music once I've finished with them. With the exception of John Denver's Country Roads, they are all songs that I love. The reason for the latter's inclusion was to see if I could put together a version that I could love.
